It’s the little things. Like a bike ride along a riverside path and seeing a swan glide in the river, inhaling clover scented air, and watching purple cow vetch – which unlike the name, is really pretty – tussle with lanky milkweed as I pedal by.
It’s feeling my muscles cooperating, listening to the messages my brain is sending them and rolling me forward.
It’s sweat sliding down my spine and feeling the breeze through the vents in my helmet.
It’s the surprise of a ribbon of daisies following the path and a chipmunk scooting in front of me – little daredevil – tempting death by bike tire.
It’s the smell of new mown grass along the verge and hot pine needles at high noon.
It’s sighting a Great Blue Heron propped on one leg, while a mama goose and goslings swim around him like he’s just a branch sticking out of the water.
All this joy is thanks to the work of a Kinesiologist at Ottawa Osteopathy who brought me from a blubbering, blubbery 58 year old woman unable to lift her body into a bridge to one who recently traveled and in the course of that trip, hoisted a 10 kilo suitcase into overhead bins in airplanes a total of 8 times; from a woman who hasn’t ridden her bike in 3 years to one who just rode 14 kilometers today. I feel good.
Thank you, David Witiluk.

Wonderful! I started an exercise program yesterday. You are an inspiration and a timely motivator! And I like the name purple cow vetch!

It was a humbling experience when we first started but I have to say, Bruce, with a modicum of work (3 x a week for about 20 minutes each time) I progressed quickly. It has made a huge difference in my “happiness”.

I’ve been lounging in the backyard trying to write a poem, occasionally looking up words on my handy-dandy phone and got your letter and thought you must have read this post! Will write soon.

It has been a long road to get here, Pauline. Many different physiotherapy approaches, “dry needles”, acupuncture, chiropractors until finally I was referred to Ottawa Osteopathy where I met a whole team of amazing professionals, four of whom worked with me to get me up a going again. So grateful to each of them.
Find something that works for you, Pauline and keep at it. I think that’s the key. Don’t give up.

I like swans and mirrory lakes, no question about it. Exercise–not so much. I’ll let you do the heavy lifting–so to speak–in that regard. No bicycle or treadmill shall come within two miles of my typewriter.

That’s pretty cool. Hats off to your kinesiologist, and for you, for doing the hard work to bring your healthy body back. Wonderful photos. Happy day.

Me too, Andrea. The cherries really are a treat because you don`t see them in the grocery store. They don`t travel well.
